If I had any regular blog visitors I've certainly alienated them by now, and I won't be gaining more until I find the discipline to regularly post. I can just hear my mom saying her standard line, "quit fartin' around and do something!" What's that saying? When you have less to do you do less? Well that perfectly embodies the last month for me. There is much to talk about though, and I'll be doing that this week.
First up, our recent sanctuary!
In my last post I told you how excited we were to be house and dog sitting for a friend here in Texas. She was previously stationed in North Dakota where we met her, and she showed up here in Texas about a month after us, but she is stationed here for the next two years. She recently went on a 10 day trip for work, and rather that put her dog in a kennel so soon after moving into her house, she asked us to watch him. Meet Radar.
He is a two year old, 75-ish pound German Shepherd who is so loving and quite the protector! He slept in the bed with us, along with our own dog and cat who we brought along. At least once every night he would run through the house barking at noises he heard outside. If he were my dog I'd never be scared to be alone again. You would think being woken up by barking in the middle of the night would be annoying, but somehow it was comforting, probably because he would settle back down quickly. Alley, on the other hand, would lift her head to watch Radar leave the room, then plop it back down on the bed with a sigh and close her eyes again. Real nice! Radar loved us all before the sun set on our first day together, and he was going to protect us no matter what threatened our safety. Even if it was only the wind. :) Radar seems the perfect name! He loves walks, belly rubs, playing in the back yard, chasing squirrels, swimming, and sunbathing. I loved my mornings with him. I would sip coffee and swing while he and Alley came out to sunbathe near me. This was our favorite spot:
We'd watch the ducks on the lake and breathe in the warm morning air. Often times I would read a book or magazine out there. I tell you, it was heaven! Scott and I so appreciated our friend opening her house to us. There was so much room to move around. I even had a full size kitchen at my fingertips...with drawers! So much nicer than our ghetto box of a room on base. We have three weeks left in Texas and we are so excited to move on to Dover...to a house...with a real kitchen...and a yard. It's the simple things in life, ya know? But we'll enjoy the rest of our time here because I think we'll both hit the ground running when we get to Dover. Scott will be working hard at getting acclimated to the new job, and I will be job hunting.
New Development: I am putting a hold on plans for nursing school while in Dover. It's a very long, dramatic, drawn out story that I"ll probably tell you soon. But for now, we'll just say it wasn't meant to be in Dover. I believe the time and money one spends on their education is very valuable and should be treated so by the institution who is taking them. So, I'm determined to enjoy my last weeks here before I jump into the grind of job hunting in Dover. Though I must admit, it's kind of exciting to start looking and revising my resume. Must be a product of my previous job as a Career Coordinator. :)
So, the agenda for the next few weeks:
1. Get back to a regular workout routine
2. Resume volunteering
3. Finish scrapbooking (a beast of a project, worthy of it's own post soon)
4. Finish summer reading
5. Tinker with job hunting and resume revisions
6. Learn more about Photoshop editing
7. BLOG REGULARLY!
What loose ends of summer do you need to tie up?
