The Trip, Part 2

I finally finished editing the photos from our trip to South Dakota.  If you haven't been to the Black Hills, go!  This quickly became our favorite part of the country we've seen so far.  We highly recommend you see it as we did...from the seat of a motorcycle.

We trailored our bike across South Dakota and all the way there we saw signs for Wall Drug posted an average of every half mile.  Obviously I was curious.  How good could a drug store be?  We're talking one sign every half mile over 300 miles!  Can you say excessive marketing?   Just before we reached Wall, SD we made a little detour...

to the Badlands National Park.  I can't tell you how nice it was to see mountains in the prairie.  We certainly lack this visual interest in the landscape of eastern ND!

As we drove the scenic loop we read a brochure about the local plant life and wild life.  We learned about the history of the Badlands too.  Did you know there used to be an ocean in the middle of the U.S.?  Don't believe me?  Here's the old ocean floor.

Scott went all the way out to the edge of this cliff on the far left.  Looking over the edge was absolutely crazy!  But looking out across the landscape was awesome!

See that guy on top of the cliff?  Tell me this doesn't remind you of one of those inspirational posters.  Let's see, Persevere!  Yeah, I like that.  Perseverance through obstacles...like a GIANT, scary, deadly cliff.  Dude, you rock!

So after we teetered on the brink of death we decided to get some fudge to calm ourselves.  Wouldn't you know, the end of the scenic loop took us straight to the infamous Wall Drug, and the greatest maple nut fudge.

Turns out Wall Drug is no joking matter.  The building took up an entire square block!  Souvenirs aplenty, western wear galore, and homemade fudge, donuts, and ice cream.  Oh!  And really friendly people.

Stay tuned for Mt. Rushmore...
