Lucky Seven

Lucky to be leaving Texas in seven days!

Dear Texas, you've been good to me this summer (minus two straight weeks of century temps in August, but I'm willing to overlook that).  Your people are pretty nice, though I wish they'd use cruise control while driving, and your sunshine is abundant.  Thank you for that.  I'll miss it.  But I won't miss your prickly grass full of burs.  Ouch!  And I won't miss your gigantic crickets and beetles (everything's bigger in Texas, right).  And I won't miss sweating on my walk to the car.  And I won't miss the tiny ghetto box that seems to be closing in on me by the second.  Probably because I see an end in sight and it looks like a three bedroom, three bathroom house with a walk in closet.  Amen.

I will miss the great little sushi place in town that I still don't know the name of.  I'll miss the spontaneous barbecues made possible by your ever-present good weather.  I'll miss lazy days lounging at your pools.  I'll miss your best BBQ joint in town, The Branding Iron.  I'll miss your delicious steakhouse, McBride's.  I'll miss being so close to friends in Altus, OK.  I'll miss my furry friends at your Human Society.  I'll most definitely miss the Air Force friends we've made here, none of which are staying though.

Lucky to be leaving in seven days.  But also lucky to have had the experiences you provided me with this summer.  I feel the excitement of new adventures on the horizon, but I also feel an urgency to soak up every last bit of fun I can from you, dearest Texas.  Tomorrow?  Six Flags.  Sunday?  Shopping with Mr. Bangladesh for gifts for his wife.  Next week?  One last trip to Altus, The Branding Iron, McBride's, and the sushi place.  Let's make it count!
